Letter to the Editor
Alumni valuable to PSU, and should be respected
I am writing in response to Matt McLaughlin's and Eric Pipal's criticism of "excessive letters" from alumni. The Daily Collegian is in fact a newspaper published by students at Penn State whose mission is "to publish a quality campus newspaper." This mission does not mention that the Collegian is published solely for students. I believe the purpose of a "student newspaper" is to provide the Penn State community with information about what is happening on campus. That Penn State community includes students, faculty, alumni and residents of State College. Let me ask you this. Where would Penn State be without the support of its loyal alumni? I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I will think twice about my donations to Penn State if I think my money is being used to fund events that are a disgrace to the university and its name. The actions of the students reflect upon the entire Penn State community, and the entire community has a right to voice their opinion. Now that I have lowered myself to the level of a "complete and total loser," let me say that I am proud to be a Penn State alumna, and I encourage my fellow alum to remain an active part of the Penn State Community despite the criticism of some students. Remember, where would they be without our money?
