This past weekend Seth Abrams, Jessie Kirker and Sarah Barr made the trip to Alexandria, La. All three are a part of the Penn State Power Lifting club and placed in this year's National Power Lifting Tournament.
Abrams placed second in the power lifting all-around.
One of the events he did well in was the squat. He squatted 518 pounds. He then bench pressed 440 pounds and dead lifted more than 550 pounds. These were all personal bests for the junior, who started weight lifting three years ago.
"Seth did great," Barr said. "I have been working with him for three years and I am so proud of him."
As for Barr, the junior placed fifth in her 148 pound weight class, which had more than 25 people participating.
In the three events Barr put up more than 700 pounds. She stands at 5-foot-2 described herself as "The Intimidator." Barr who enjoys making a lot of noise to pump herself up before each event has grown in her three years here at Penn State.
"When I was a freshman, I was scrawny and was intimidated when I went down there for my first tournament," she said. "Now when people see me I'm the one doing the intimidating."
With only three Penn State weight lifters participating in this year's event, all three proved that the Penn State weight lifting club might be small, but they are mighty.
