Letter to the Editor
PSU alumni should avoid writing excessive letters
Are we really the only ones who understand what a student newspaper is? The March 1 issue of The Daily Collegian featured 10 letters to the editor. Four of these were actually written by students. One was written by an adult member of the university community. An absurd five of these letters were written by alumni. Before alumni write any more letters to the Collegian editor, we would suggest they ask themselves a simple question: Is my opinion really so original and earth-shattering that it could not possibly be provided by an actual Penn State student to the student newspaper? If the answer is no (which it probably is), then think about allowing students to express it, and instead, spend your time writing into a non-student newspaper since you are a non-student. If instead, you feel that yes, your opinion is so completely unique that no student could possibly express it as you could, then you ought to rethink why you are the only person subscribing to your insane ideology. Gregory J. Bankos Sr., Class of 1966, Mr. My-country-is-turning-into-a-"worthless-pit-of-depravity," this means you! As seniors graduating in May, we are hereby resolving that once we read the last edition of this semester's Collegian in April, we promise to never again attempt to write in to the paper. No matter how upset, excited, or intrigued we may be by anything going on at Penn State, we realize that continuing to write to the Collegian will make us complete and total losers. Hopefully, we will have enough to do in the outside world that we won't have to waste our days chiding and insulting students at our alma mater.
