The student-run diversity newsletter, Cultural Expressions, made its online debut in the fall.
This semester the letter's organizers are striving to reach a larger audience.
Cultural Expressions was originally established to give College of Communications students more journalism experience by covering diversity events and issues.
The Penn State Association of Journalists for Diversity (PSAJD) publishes the online newsletter.
The PSAJD is part of the student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
By publishing online, PSAJD intends to reach more students, said David Davis, campus editor for Cultural Expressions.
"With Cultural Expressions we make people more aware of the diverse climate at Penn State," Davis explained, "we bring it to their computers, making it easily accessible."
Cultural Expressions (www.clubs.psu.edu/psajd) provides readers with campus news, sports news and information about the College of Communications with a focus on the diversity of the Penn State community.
Links to scholarship information and upcoming events are also on the Cultural Expressions Web page.
This semester, the PSAJD initiated a project to highlight certain communications students.
Faculty members are able to nominate students for the Student of the Month award based on the student's enthusiasm, effort and work in class.
Angie Brown, coordinator of college relations, said she expects nothing but good things from the PSAJD and Jennifer Hernández, president of the organization.
"The online newsletter gives more of a voice to diversity on campus," she said.
Joseph Selden, director of multicultural affairs for the College of Communications and advisor to PSAJD, agreed Cultural Expressions going online benefits the student body.
"It's a means for our journalism club to use the latest means of communication to provide the most current and accurate information relevant to our diversity community," he said.
