Letter to the Editor
Every country has faults; do not single China out

I just read one letter titled "Olympic Games of 2008 should not be in China," blaming China's bid for the 2008 Olympics. I have to say I feel uncomfortable about this letter!

I don't think the letter is based on the facts at all. The truth is that China really has its own drawbacks (we have to admit every country has its own weaknesses), but nowadays, Beijing is more open to the world and has already made gigantic advances in economic development, environmental improvement, and democratic and legal reform!

The truth is that members of the International Olympic Committee had a very good impression of Beijing and said what impressed them most is the enthusiasm and the wholehearted support of the people in Beijing!

The truth is that the International Olympic Committee Assessment Team leader said the committee saw the real Beijing and have a very good overall impression on the city!

The truth is that a lot of international media believe the amazing progressing rate of Beijing will no doubt make it well prepared for the Olympic Games in a couple of years! The truth is the spirit of hard struggle of Olympic Games just encourages that!

In view of the above-mentioned facts, I have no idea what his comments are based on.

I am sure all the Chinese students here will feel the same discomfort as me after reading that letter.

I hope you can do something about it! We Chinese students care about that.
