Letter to the Editor
The 'system' robs from us our individuality, originality
I want to comment on how much I loved Rick Law's article on breaking down the system. The system includes anything that helps to shape our opinions and state of mind, such as the TV, friends, religion, government, and popular society. Law described this "system" as an evil empire. I do not agree with that. The system Law refers to is almost like a force that organizes society as well as helping to unite the people within it. The system does, however, steal our originality and individuality. We so often forget how to do things for ourselves. We're told by this force what will make us happy, and how to attain happiness. It's all about freedom. Our freedom of mind often gets lost in our systematic pursuit of bullshit. We limit our freedom to appease others and the system. No more limits, the world is mine. And I want the heading of the letter to read simply "Freedom". I often forget how free I am. Today, I pledge that I will do something that I want to do. I might run my skinny ass through the HUB wearing nothing except for my tennis shoes, or I might go downtown and buy the most wonderful soccer ball that I've ever laid my eyes on. Just cause I want to. Maybe I'll quit looking out for myself, because I'm sick of selfishness.
