[Thursday,
March 1, 2001 ] Today's
University Park forecast
March will come in like a lamb rather than a
lion today with a minor disturbance crossing the state
and only bringing a few flurries. Once this passes, high
pressure will slowly start to work its way tomorrow and
Saturday. By early next week, however, a coastal storm
may develop along the East Coast and strengthen over the
Carolinas, providing the chance of rain or snow late
Monday.
Prepared by the Campus Weather Service

Highlight
The deadliest avalanche on record in
the U.S. occurred on this date in 1910. The snow roared
down the mountains near Wellington Station, WA, taking
three huge locomotive trains and several passenger cars
over the side of the mountain and burying them under tons
of snow in a canyon. More than 100 people were killed by
the avalanche.
