Denouncing Schlessinger shows closed-mindedness
I think Tuesday's editorial by the Collegian Board of Opinion shows just how "open" some people really are concerning these issues. "Dr. Laura, butt out?" Why not let her come to Harrisburg and provide input on the issues that often become a topic of conversation on her radio talk show? If you really believe her credentials are so low and she doesn't know what she's talking about, who cares if she comes and talks in Harrisburg, right? So let me see if I have this right. Because Dr. Laura was intimidated for speaking her mind about gays on her radio show, she is a hypocrite now because members of Womyn's Concerns has a right to speak their mind? Well, I think the problem there is that she is not talking about their right to speak. It's something else that was going down in the Tent of Consent using public funding that's the problem, and it wasn't speaking. Why is it that the same people proclaiming a message of openness, support and making someone feel "welcome," so often turn around and tell someone to "butt out?" There's the real hypocrisy. There's nothing more "distasteful" and "uneducated" than telling someone to "butt out" when you really don't have any reason to do so other than your own selfish agenda.
