A Penn State student accused of stealing and damaging over $7,000 worth of items from six different vehicles waived his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday.

Matthew Debasio, 20, is charged with several counts of criminal conspiracy, crim inal mischief and theft from a motor vehicle.

According to police documents, Debasio told police that on July 9 he and three friends visiting from New Jersey were walking back toward their apartment on the 300 block of East Beaver Avenue and noticed high quality stereo equipment in several of the cars.

Police said Debasio also said he damaged the cars while he was breaking into them to steal the items.

Upon entering Debasio's apartment, police found the equipment stacked in the closet.
