Letter to the Editor
Taxes could have funded Lawless' trip to Sex Faire
In response to Rep. John Lawless' concerns about misspent tax money, I sent him a letter on Feb. 5 requesting that he report the amount and source of money used to cover his travel and video expenses while attending the recent Sex Faire. Not surprising, I have yet to receive a response from Rep. Lawless. I'm sure he's quite busy editing propaganda video, asking Laura Schlessinger (who has a Ph.D. in physiology and a non-Pennsylvania resident) for advice and scheduling her appearance in front of the House Appropriations Committee. According to undisputed reports, Sex Faire cost $50 and used no tax money. On the other hand, Lawless and the video camera-toting staff members' salaries and travel expenses were paid with tax dollars. I must also assume that all video materials and editing were purchased with tax dollars. It is possible that Lawless spent many tax dollars to attend Sex Faire to arrive at the very same pronouncement of "vulgarity" that he levied prior to his trip. To recap, Sex Faire cost taxpayers nothing, and Lawless' trip might have cost taxpayers an as yet undisclosed amount. In a perfect world, the Appropriations Committee will listen to Lawless and Dr. Laura and immediately revoke all future monetary support for Lawless' activities. Since that won't happen, I'll settle for tacit dismissal of his opinions as irrelevant. Lawless would do well to remember that Pennsylvania citizens tell him how to spend tax money, not the other way around.
