College enlightens people despite view of 'system'
After reading Rick Law's column Monday, I have to say that I was quite perplexed at first. I was not sure if I was reading Pink Floyd's "The Wall" or some abstract version of The Matrix reiterated with a bit of arrogance. First of all, the so-called "system," or as I like to call it, "life," is not anywhere near as depressing as Law has painted it to be. I am sorry that he is receiving hate e-mails, but that does not make the majority of the students close-minded because they do not agree with him. Furthermore, I do not agree with Law's assertion that the learned ideology of college does not "teach us everything at face value with no regard for the theory or beauty that lies beneath." My professors would not appreciate that comment and neither should anyone else, for that matter. We are always encouraged to express our minds, share our ideas, and take advantage of our individualities; very, very few ideas are repressed at Penn State. College has not turned into a brain-washing, communist threshold, Rick; we are not in a matrix-like atmosphere, and Morpheus is not going to save us.
