Hate crimes and Sex Faire are both protected speech

Cuntfest and Sex Faire have roused a lot of debate concerning the rights of free speech. The university and the Collegian have been defending the First Amendment rights of the feminists on campus.

I have yet to figure out what point they are trying to make by discussing and posting pictures of female genitalia. I view vaginas as sacred treasures to be worshiped and savored. Bringing them into a public forum seems to remove their mystique. However, my point is not to condemn or approve of the newfound attention to vaginas. I am more concerned with the consistency by which the university and the Collegian define free speech. Only a few months ago, the hot topic was how to curb hate crimes (in essence, how to prevent people from expressing their dissatisfaction with another group). Discussions concerning race can be offensive, yet is it any more offensive than the vulgarity we have been subjected to in the past few months? I am not asking that the Collegian determine what is acceptable and what is not. That's not its place. However, everyone is entitled to his own opinion. The Collegian should keep in mind that its opinion will be held in higher regard if it does not contradict itself.
