Students expect expenses to go toward the facilities
As university students, we are faced with additional costs each semester. When tuition increases, we expect this to contribute to a higher quality of education. When we pay the technology fee, we expect this to contribute to our computer access. When the price of a fitness pass increases by 50 percent, we expect this to contribute to the new facilities in the White Building. Then we read in yesterday's Collegian that "the White Building is only using one-third of its space to hold exercise equipment because of pressure from off-campus gyms." Apparently, even though the White Building has been constructed with the help of our fitness pass expenses, only a small part of the building is available for use by students. Would the university build a classroom and only use half the space for desks? No, the room, if anything, would be overcrowded with both desks and students. Shouldn't students be given access to all the facilities we help to fund, regardless of what the overpriced local gyms request?
