Fullington bus driver to have preliminary hearing

A Fullington Trailways driver will have his preliminary hearing today for charges related to an accident in which he allegedly struck a vehicle without aiding the victim.

Gaylend Young, 48, is charged with not rendering aid, driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed and several other charges.

According to police documents, Young was driving the bus east on U.S. Route 322 when a vehicle in front of him began braking. Young tried to slow down until the bus began to slide sideways. Young told police he tried to swerve left to avoid the vehicle and believed he had missed it. Young also said he looked around for the vehicle in case he struck it, however, he said he thought the vehicle had driven off. Young continued on his route and dropped his passengers off in Bellefonte.

Alpha Ambulance Company took the female driver of the vehicle to Centre Community Hospital for minor injuries. Police said the woman is currently signed into the Centre Community Hospital Mental Health Unit. The woman told police that she signed herself in because she is having a hard time dealing with the accident.
