Letter to the Editor
Customers need not ask about employees' history
In a letter published yesterday, Ingrid Lombardo asks tanning salon customers to ensure that the employee they make tanning appointments with wasn't a Thon dancer. I have read quite a few student letters this year complaining about absurd issues, but I believe this one was especially ludicrous. Does Ingrid actually expect callers to inquire about the history of an employee before they make an appointment? When calling a tanning salon, should the callers ask to speak to someone who has no qualms about booking them a tanning appointment? When I call to order a pepperoni pizza, should I first ask the person if they are in opposition to the consumption of animal products prior to placing my order? Give me a break. If you don't approve of tanning, then find a new job! Don't expect customers to feel obligated to ensure that an employee has no objections about the very same services that she has been hired to carry out.
