Members of Student Party will represent students
The Daily Collegian is right. The Student Party could simply try to become a lobbying mechanism for student concerns, in hopes of promoting positive changes without affecting the status quo. While we have considered this possibility, we reached the conclusion that students best understand and will best represent student interests. We have decided to take responsibility for ourselves and become active civic participants, not only to fight for student issues, but also to bridge the increasing chasm between students and other residents. We have decided that we are just as much residents as they are, and seeing our sheer numbers and economic clout, equal representation is only logical. We all fully understand the commitment needed to fill a council seat, and seeing all the effort already put into the party, we are more than willing to accept the responsibilities of being public servants. We have taken on these monumental tasks to not only enhance the scope of democratic participation in the Borough, but also to politically re-energize the university and infuse local politics with a fresh new voice. True, we are busy, and true, we are not seasoned politicians. But we are dedicated, hopeful and open to public dialogue on any issue. Before anyone makes any judgments of our chances of taking any or all the council seats, please approach us and see what we're about. We're much more three-dimensional than the media make us out to be.
