Letter to the Editor
View of female genitalia closed-minded and blind
In a letter published last week, Mr. Morella suggests "natural blindness," that the etiquette of liberty which as everyone knows, prohibits the display of giant vaginas is the wellspring of human misery, injury and death. Is that same the misery, injury and possible death an Afghan woman can expect after genital mutilation? Is her "natural blindness" to the publications of Ms. Post to blame? "Freedom too far," he continues, is what enslaves the "Vagina Monologuers." I believe it is narrow-minded men who enslave women and who excuse themselves by the creed of archaic religious doctrines and cultural tradition. A giant vagina does not offend me, Mr. Morella. A giant mutilated vagina missing a clitoris offends me. The ceaseless oppression of woman is what I find profane and appalling. I would like to end my letter how Mr. Morella began his: "Presumably, those calling for the public display of vaginas on this campus would have no problem with the public display of an anus because that waste orifice is officially confused with the aforementioned reproductive one, thanks to those who promote homosexuality as an alternative lifestyle..." I certainly hope so.
