The Lady Icers have a full weekend ahead of them, as they will take on three teams in three days.
Penn State will face off in the first game tonight against the University of Buffalo.
Tomorrow and Sunday will bring the University of Rhode Island into town for back-to-back games.
Although Penn State has played the University of Buffalo in the past, this will be their first meeting this year. In the last two games played between the two teams, the Lady Icers were victorious by a score of 5-1 each time.
That, coupled with the fact that the Lady Icers are coming off a 15-0 shutout against Rutgers University last Saturday, has Penn State's confidence high.
"I think Rutgers beat Buffalo," forward Alex McVicker said. "So it doesn't look like it will be that much of a competition."
However, Lady Icers coach Billie Willits wants her team to keep themselves in check.
"What we're talking about is not getting cocky," Willits said.
"I never expect an easy game. You have to always be prepared."
With that said, Willits expects Buffalo to come out playing hard. In goal for the Lady Icers will be Jessica Gurskey. Gurskey has played against Buffalo in past years, so Willits gave her the call to start in goal.
Jeannine Kausch will step into the net against Rhode Island tomorrow. Sunday's game will see Gurskey back in goal.
"I wanted to see both of them play against Rhode Island," Willits said.
In the last meeting with the Lady Rams, Penn State won in a decisive 18-0 shutout. Assuming that Penn State will dominate this weekend's games as well, Willits said she wants to use the Rhode Island game to work on strategy and to move people around to other positions as Penn State prepares for nationals. She is even considering moving some defensive players into offensive positions.
The Lady Icers are preparing for the Mid-Atlantic Women's Collegiate Hockey Association championships, as well nationals.
"We've been working on breakout drills and defense," McVicker said. "The positioning of the defense."
The Lady Icers have really stepped up a notch in their past few games. With championships and nationals right around the corner, the team thinks it is coming together well.
"Our last couple of games it seems that everyone is working really well together," McVicker said.
Willits added that the Lady Icers are hoping to get good fan support for the games this weekend.
Tonight's game will be at 9:15. Tomorrow's and Sunday's games against Rhode Island will be at 3:10 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., respectively.
