UPAC's allocation is fair, supports student activities

I'm sick and tired of hearing people complain about UPAC. The recent rant by Greg Sturges was the worst yet. Mr. Sturges claims he is against most taxes, such as UPAC, but finds the government funding of Penn State an appropriate use.

He calls UPAC "an awful investment" simply because he doesn't take advantage of it. There are more than 400 different organizations here on campus, and if one of those doesn't suit your interests, you have two choices — expand your horizons or create your own student group that shares your close-minded views.

Sturges finds UPAC "funds many events" he would rather not pay for. What about the millions of Pennsylvanians who don't have children going here, yet still foot your educational bill? You wouldn't even be here if everyone shared your selfish views.

Sturges incorrectly claims the reason for UPAC's early bankruptcy was due to poor handling of funds. The Collegian cleared up this issue weeks ago — more groups are learning about and taking advantage of the funds earlier than before. Case closed.

People should not be up in arms that UPAC is out of funding. If anything, this is a great thing, for it shows the tremendous amount of student involvement. Sturges uses "diversity" as an obscenity.
