The three men accused of conspiring to embezzle more than $300,000 from Penn State waived their rights to preliminary hearings yesterday.
Joseph Szalanski, Richard Butterfield and Michael Young turned themselves in last week to Penn State Police Services and are charged with several counts of criminal conspiracy and theft by deception.
Szalanski, of Vandergrift, was arraigned Feb. 15 and is accused of embezzling $95,200 with assistance from head conspirator and former Director of Outreach Operations John C. Marshall.
Butterfield, of Atlanta, was arraigned Feb. 14 and is accused of embezzling a total of $125,300. Butterfield was paid for program development for Penn State that never occurred, police said.
Young, of Lancaster, was arraigned sometime last week and, according to police documents, embezzled more than $65,000 during 15 transactions with Marshall.
The three men are scheduled for pre-trial conferences May 22.
