Man attempted to skip out on bill, police say

A 29-year-old man was charged with escape and disorderly conduct yesterday for attempting to run from the Ye Old College Diner, 126 W. College Ave., without paying his bill and causing other disturbances downtown, the State College Police Department said.

Jerome Zitter, of Yardley, Pa., is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 28 and is being held at Centre County Prison on $50,000 bail.

According to police documents, Zitter ran from the restaurant at 2:29 a.m. without paying a $7 tab. Police asked Zitter for ID at which point he attempted to run. Zitter fell shortly after he began to run, and police sprayed him with pepper spray and handcuffed him. Upon his arrest, police said they smelled alcohol on Zitter's breath and noticed mood swings from being cooperative to becoming aggressive.

Prior to this incident, police said Zitter was involved in two other incidents that occurred that evening. At Café 210 West, 210 W. College Ave., Zitter tried to pay for his $54 bill with a maxed out credit card. Management agreed Zitter could return the next day to pay the bill, police said.

Zitter is also accused of following a 21-year-old female and a 22-year-old male down South Allen Street while intoxicated.
