Letter to the Editor
Participants in Thon 2001 deserve thanks and praise
This past weekend, I spent most of my days and nights, as did the majority of Penn State students, at Dance Marathon. In my opinion this event is an amazing accomplishment, and it shows how much the students of all the Penn State campuses can accomplish when they work together. I think that I speak on behalf of the entire student body in stating that raising over $3.6 million for children with cancer takes a lot of time, sacrifice and effort. I would like to not only congratulate, but also thank every single person involved in making Thon 2001 such a success. I am not only writing this letter to congratulate the efforts of everyone involved with this year's marathon, but also to congratulate all of the hard work put in by the people of my organization. The members of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity and Delta Delta Delta sorority collaborated to raise more than 201,000 dollars for Thon this year. This feat could not be possible without all of the hard work and sacrifice put forth everyday by the Thon chairs, dancers, the active members of the fraternity and sorority who went on the canning trips, went soliciting door to door, and sent out letters. Considering there were only three other organizations over the $200,000 mark, this is truly a commendable feat and all who were involved should feel good about themselves and their accomplishment. Furthermore, I want to extend congratulations to the members of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority for raising over 124,000 dollars. To raise that much money without a partner fraternity truly deserves respect and recognition. I hope all of the greek organizations serve as an example to the rest of Penn State and we break the $4 million barrier in 2002!
Robert A. Massari
president of Kappa Delta Rho
