As Penn State and State College officials continue to pressure bars about thorough identification checks, some students find ID checks sometimes go above and beyond what is necessary.

The Penn State community got a taste of the world yesterday in the HUB-Robeson Center and White Building.

Armed with signs that read slogans such as "King George is a puppet for corporations that own his soul," a group of protesters gathered yesterday in front of University Gates to picket George W. Bush's presidency.

The back of Merritt Swallow's shirt read "Dancin' 4 Liz," referring to the name of the child her sorority — Theta Kappa Pi — was sponsoring.
Thon family inspires dancers

Yellow shirts speckled the dance floor this past weekend at the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. From the Rec Hall bleachers, they added an element of flair, mixing with the brightly colored beach balls, funky hats and crazy tube socks.

Taking out trash and cleaning toilets are not usually items found on a student's "to do" list over the weekend, but during the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, hundreds of students signed up to do just that.

Pennsylvania and federal tax forms are now available on the University Libraries' Social Sciences Library's Web site.

Police are searching for a man accused of breaking the jaw of a 21-year-old Penn State student and then "cheering" about the assault, the State College Police Department said.


SPORTS

Penn State beat up on Purdue, 92-71, Saturday at The Bryce Jordan Center as the Lions set a record against the Boilermakers by hitting 15 three-point baskets in the rout.

It didn't bring home the title, but the women's swimming and diving team still managed to have a winning weekend.

It was a good-news/bad-news weekend for the Penn State baseball team.

Wisconsin's towering triplet of Jessie Stomski, LaTonya Sims and Nina Smith proved to be too much for Penn State yesterday as the Badgers picked up an important conference win, defeating the No. 16 Lady Lions 86-75 at the Kohl Center.

It wasn't exactly the best way to end the season, but the Penn State wrestling team has to be happy to be finished with dual meets.

When is a win not really a win? When you're the Penn State men's gymnastics team and you score only 204.650 points, that's when.

For the last four years, Alon Eizenman has wowed the crowd at the Ice Pavilion with an array of moves that has left opposing defenders looking silly.

After the final whistle in Saturday's game, the No. 2 Penn State men's ice hockey team took the ice and raised their sticks in appreciation to the fans for supporting the team through the season.

The weekend brought a lot of firsts for the Penn State women's gymnastics team — first place finishes on each events, two new team records, and a new school record in the individual all-around competition.
