The Penn State Lady Icers will take on Rutgers University tomorrow night at 10:10 at the Greenberg Sports Complex.
The two teams last met on Oct. 29 at Rutgers, with Penn State winning the game 3-0.
Rutgers didn't pose much of a challenge to the Lady Icers in their last meeting. The shots taken against Penn State were few and far between. Jeannine Kausch, who made her debut as goalie against Rutgers, also posted her first shut out against the team.
To prepare for tomorrow's game, the Lady Icers have been working on systems, power plays and penalty kills. In their last game, against Chatham, the power play didn't look as good as it usually does. Penalty kills, however, were very effective. The Lady Icers weren't focusing as much in practice on individual skills as they were working as a team.
"Our individual skills are already developed," forward Lauren Shaw said.
Shaw seemed confident that her team will be successful in beating Rutgers.
"We play better against teams we've played before," Shaw said. "We played Rutgers last year. We know what their players do."
Penn State also has home advantage this time, helping their chances at a victory. The Lady Icers are expecting the Scarlet Knights to come out strong and aggressive.
"They play hard, and they play up to our level," Shaw said. "And our problem is if we start playing down to their level."
The Lady Icers want to make sure that they keep their play aggressive and don't slack off because, as Shaw said, they have a tendency to play down to their competition's level.
That wasn't a problem in their last meeting, though and might not be tonight.
After coming off one of the best games played by the Lady Icers last weekend against Chatham, where Kausch tallied another shut out, Penn State's confidence is high.
The Lady Icers will be looking for their tenth victory this season as they head into the weekend game.
Next weekend will have the Lady Icers playing three games. The University of Buffalo will be at the Greenberg Sports Complex on Feb. 23, and the University of Rhode Island will play Feb. 24 and 25.
