Letter to the Editor
Americans get tax breaks when they pay high taxes

I am reading with interest your editorial on President Bush's tax cut plan. Just as objectively as I try to read it, I see you failed to check your hard-line liberal dogma at the door.

Here we go again ... Republicans only care about the wealthy and Democrats are champions of the poor. How do we truth-sayers break the myth? How can we combat this outdated false line of thinking? I don't know if we can if those who write editorials don't even begin to do their homework and espouse this bent thinking on the rest of us.

Let's just deal with the facts. A couple earning just over the poverty level with a couple of children doesn't pay federal income tax!

They most likely get refunds, so of course people will rightfully say they do not get a tax cut. Oh, how we can blur the truth and smudge the gray.

The more you earn, the less the tax cut in percentage of tax paid in. It's simple. But can it be fair? Is it fair to give an across-the-board tax cut where everyone of every tax bracket keeps more of what they earn? Shouldn't all people in America, where even the editors believe that all are created equal, deserve equal tax treatment? Or do we only believe this when it suits us?
