NY teams not guaranteed a championship season

As a Penn State parent and PSU football fan who lives in the Baltimore area, I enjoyed reading Josh Rhett Miller's Super Bowl commentary last month. The essence of Josh's article was that the New York Giants were destined to win the Super Bowl because no American city can match the sports history, size and resources of New York.

Josh even believed that the Giant's defense was comparable to that of the Ravens and predicted a New York victory with a specific score. I had the opportunity to attend the Super Bowl and sit (not by design) in the Giants section of the stadium. As usual, the New York fans were cocky and loud early in the game. But as the game wore on and the Ravens defense steadily crushed the Giants, the loud and obnoxious cheering eventually led to silence and some booing.

After a decisive play early in the fourth quarter, many Giants fans actually got up and left the stadium. As a Baltimore Orioles fan, I respect the winning tradition and success of the Yankees. However, outside of baseball, New York sports teams have not had extraordinary success relative to other cities. So Josh, check out some sports history the next time you're in the PSU bookstore. I think you'll find that a New York uniform hardly guarantees a championship season.
