Mary J. Rouse Award goes to art education professor

Yvonne Gaudelius, assistant professor of art education and women's studies, will be awarded the 2001 Mary J. Rouse Award from the Women's Caucus of the National Art Education Association.

The Rouse Award, which Gaudelius will receive at the association's annual conference in New York City in March, is awarded yearly to young professionals poised to have great impact in art education.

Gaudelius received her doctorate in art education and women's studies from Penn State in 1993, and subsequently joined the university faculty. She previously received her bachelor's degree from Queen's University in Ontario, Canada and her bachelor of fine arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Gaudelius' main academic interests include feminist art criticism, feminist aesthetics, and feminist approaches to education. Some of her work has been published in articles such as the Journal of Social Theory in Art Education, The Pennsylvania Art Educator and The Canadian Review of Art Education.
