Proposal for a live mascot unrealistic and dangerous
USG Senator Justin Blankenbicker thinks that Penn State should have a live lion as its mascot, according to Tuesday's Collegian. He and other senators are convinced that having a wild animal running around on the football field is the answer to our school spirit prayers. Get real. If we actually had a lion mascot, I'm nearly positive that someone (probably a cheerleader from the opposing team) would be eaten. And after Penn State settles out of court for the tragedy, the university's Faculty Senate will be forced to pass another resolution stating its firm opposition to man-eating in Beaver Stadium. USG should concern itself with substantive issues such as relations with the borough, campus safety and rising tuition rates. And if USG senators can't get along without a lion, they should go to the Philadelphia Zoo, and leave me out of it.
