Despite need for control, drinkers not all the same
I am writing in response to Rick Law's column dealing with drinking alcohol becoming a lifestyle. Despite being an avid fan of the party scene here at Penn State, let me start by saying Mr. Law did, in fact, make some good points. I know almost for a fact that if I were to hold some kind of nonalcoholic function on a weeknight, many of my friends would maybe only show for a little while and then make their way to a bar. Also, the number of kegs at a party shouldn't justify the quality of the party; enjoying the company of good friends should be the goal. However, in lieu of these good points, it's not right to generalize the entire student body as an out-of-control animal house because of the actions of some. It does absolutely no good to make fun of the "dumbest of the dumb," as Law so eloquently puts it. I won't condemn you as President Spanier's sidekick. You are just trying to make a point that the almighty lager shouldn't control our lives, which is correct. However, maybe next time you could try a little couth when making your case (e.g. no talk of Chuck E. Cheese atmosphere or South Park-dumb lifestyles) and not hold everyone accountable for drinking 'because we're supposed to."
