Students should respect people of all races, creeds
I don't know about you, but I think there are some serious problems on this campus. I'm not even talking about the administrative confusion that most of us experience on a daily basis. I'm talking about the amount of prejudice and racism that is alive and well on this campus. I mean, we're not exactly in the most diverse part of the country, but that's no excuse for people who are not educated about what basic human respect really is. I've struggled my whole life to find out why people can think that one race or ethnic group is better or worse that the other. I mean it doesn't take much time to walk up to someone, have a short conversation and realize that they are exactly the same as you. Now, you might think I'm a radical minority speaker of something, but ironically I'm in the majority of students on this campus. I'm white and grew up around other white people; however, I've never felt dislike for an other races like I see in the eyes of people here. All I'm asking of anyone is to try to figure out why you would ever put someone down because of something they have no control over. So, next time you want to shout a racial or prejudiced slur at a fellow student, please remember that they're really no different from you. Patrick Lucey
