Dance Marathon deserves space in BJC, not Rec Hall
How can we morally and ethically limit space for the Dance Marathon? From its beginning in 1977, Thon has had major advances in the number of participants and the amount of money raised, and has made adjustments to meet the criteria. It has since graduated from the HUB Ballroom, to the White Building, to where it is presently held at Rec Hall. So why can't we make one more stride to move it to The Bryce Jordan Center where we could accommodate all organizations that want to participate in Thon and contribute to the Four Diamonds Fund? This is a remarkable cause that thousands of people donate their time to, not only for the 48 hours that are actually danced, but also for months in advance. I think it's absurd that we are turning organizations away from participating because there isn't room in Rec Hall for the excess people. Why can't we organize our sports schedule around a greater cause for one weekend in the year? I think The Bryce Jordan Center is a waste of money and space by this university if we can't put it to use for everything possible. I hope that these organizations who didn't "win a spot" in the lottery, will still donate the money in good heart; however, it's wrong to deny this community to do more. There's no limit to what this university could do for these families and children if all the organizations are granted the permission to partake in the event.
