Letter to the Editor
Bush critics never happy; he deserves a fair chance
When George W. Bush started to run for president people said, "He was not smart enough." When people found out he graduated from Yale they said, "Oh, he was a legacy, and his father must have got him into the school." Then, people found out that George W. had an MBA from Harvard and they said, "Oh, his father must have paid the school." And when people found out the George W.'s college grades were better than Al Gore's they said, "Oh grades don't matter, because Al Gore knows about foreign policy." Then, when the Florida controversy arose, people said, "Oh the only reason he got the votes in Florida is because his brother is governor." Finally, when W. became president they said, "It was only because they did not count all the hanging, pregnant, dimpled or three-corner hanging chads." It is time to give George W. some credit. He ran a statistical tie in the popular vote against an incumbent vice president during the best economic time in our country's history. He has put together probably the most experienced cabinet in presidential history in record time. In three weeks, Bush has already proposed a tax bill and an education bill. At this time in the Clinton presidency, I think Clinton was nominating his third attorney general. I am not asking Democrats to become Republicans or give up their beliefs. All I am saying is that George W. should be judged on his actions as president, not by the spin of TV pundits.
