Letter to the Editor
UPAC follows guidelines, ensuring efficiency, justice
I am writing in response to Nick Magnini's letter. I do not know everything about the allocation process, but as a member of an organization that has requested funds from UPAC, I do know that UPAC follows strict guidelines to allocate these funds. Requesters must prove their event is an educational experience that is open to all students and enhances learning outside of the classroom. They must also justify every expense. This is a lengthy process; UPAC does not just randomly hand out money to anyone that asks for it. In response to the numerous letters surrounding allocations for Cuntfest and other activities, we obviously all differ on what programs we view as meaningful experiences outside of the classroom. I want to remind everyone that UPAC is a student organization. Only a few months ago, UPAC hung signs to recruit interested students and held workshops about their procedures, as they do every semester. While the deadline to apply for an appointed position has ended, I suggest to anyone who has complained about the current committee's decisions to run for one of the 10 elected positions instead of grumbling about misallocation of your money. UPAC is a student organization dedicated to fairly distributing the Student Activity Fee. If you think that you can do better than the current committee, then be on the next committee. Otherwise, allow the members to continue making the University Park experience as valuable and broad as possible.
