UPAC uses faulty system to allocate student funds

Now I am not the most informed individual about how UPAC funds are spent, but from the article in Thursday's paper about how those funds for the year are gone already, a few things caught my attention.

For one, UPAC seems to be misusing and throwing away the $38 dollars that each student pays a semester. I was shocked as I read what Avenel Joseph, treasure for the Caribbean Student Association, had to say: "Every year they have funded the entire event ... This is really disappointing." Joseph was referring to UPAC's funding of the Caribbean Experience that has a budget of $21,000. What is disappointing is not the fact that there may be no Caribbean Experience this year, but that my money and that of many other Penn State students is going to this "experience" where only a few students actually benefit.

Then, Eddie Elizondo, UPAC chairman, has the nerve to wonder where the money has all gone. Well Eddie, you know where $21,000 went, now don't you? It seems to me like a lot of PSU students are paying for the good times and extracurricular activities of a select few. This makes no sense to me at all. I propose UPAC be terminated along with the Student Activity Fee, and in its place a small fee, like at sporting events, would be implemented. This way you pay for what you get, not for what someone else is getting. UPAC in my mind is what's "really disappointing." And if anyone who stands for UPAC's funding use disagrees with me, well then I will pay the Student Activity Fee so you can have fun, but to make it even, you have to pay for my football season tickets. It's only fair.
