Sex education must stress love, not offensive images
I recently got my master's degree in counseling from PSU and was concerned to hear about the Sex Faire. As a school counselor, I admire attempts to educate about sex in order to prevent tragedies like rape, unwanted pregnancy, STDs, etc. But I do not support advocating that sex with anyone is OK, just so long as it's consensual. What's next? "Come have consensual sex on Old Main Lawn on Temptation PSU?" Why not teach that sex is a beautiful and sacred act designed to occur between two lovers who are forever committed to each other? My suggestions to improve these events include changing the names to things that sound educational, such as "What is Consent?" To someone unfamiliar with these events, "Cuntfest" and "Pin the Clitoris on the Vulva" do not sound educational. I would be fired or accused of sexual harassment if I used such language at work! Pornographic pictures and literature should be removed because they are not educational either. Common sense dictates the difference between a biology lesson and a spread-eagled woman. I can't say for sure, but I'm afraid the truly educational material is only included as a way to justify this event. Regardless, the observation I make is that some argue the public use of the word "prayer" should be censored because they find it offensive. Yet, they are against censorship of the words "Sex Faire" and tell those who are offended to deal with it. Several good-hearted people are turned off by liberalism because of these types of discrepancies.
