Weather Highlight

A major winter storm brought blizzard conditions to the Great Lakes region on this date in 1987. Winds gusting to 86 m.p.h. were reported in Wisconsin, while a foot of snow fell further west in Cleveland, OH. The water level in the southern part of Lake Michigan was raised two feet as a result of 50-70 m.p.h. winds, producing waves 12-18 feet high. Flooding and erosion from the waves caused $7 million in damages along the Chicago coast, the most flooding damage in history for the Windy City.
