Letter to the Editor
Bloomburg's Drosnock responsible for himself

I think the time has come that we as students and we as Americans start taking some personal accountability for our own actions.

Unfortunately, although the law may state otherwise, the only person responsible for the death of Bloomsburg student Jared Drosnock is Jared Drosnock.

I agree that it is an unfortunate incident, and one that was probably avoidable, but that does not change the fact that Drosnock, like all of us, was capable of making a decision the night he decided to drink himself to death.

Unless a gun was held to his head, and as far as I can tell, there was no threat of that kind, he was able to put the bottle down at any time.

Why is it that we always feel the need to place blame on someone or something for anything that goes wrong?

Is it possible that this was a horrible accident that occurred as a result of Drosnock's irresponsibility?

It seems that we are always able to place blame no matter what the situation: "I swear, Dad, it wasn't my fault I got a D on that math test. My teacher doesn't like me." You got a D because you didn't work hard enough.

Jared Drosnock died because he didn't think hard enough.

End of story.
