Letter to the Editor
Prohibiting immoral events does not make any sense
This letter is in response to Ryan Carey's letter in which he asked the university to censor all future student events that are immoral. Does anyone else see a problem in this? If we cease to hold all events that anyone can find offensive, what would become of this university? Well, for starters, we can say good-bye to the greek system, because I'm sure that someone out there is offended by the way fraternities and sororities are run. Next, we would have to say goodbye to the football team and all other athletics because someone could argue that they are discriminating against students who are not as physically gifted as the student athletes. The list would go on and on, until all events outside of classes would cease to exist. So, before anyone decides to complain about how you are offended by events at this university, remember that someone else is just as offended by the activities you support. Just because someone has a personal dislike for an event does not make it immoral.
