Letter to the Editor
Female sexual revolution needs more than women
I am perplexed after reading Cassie Hepler's editorial about the necessity for a "female sexual revolution." I cannot help but disagree with her proposed solution. I certainly do not believe that the sexual revolution should be left up to females. It lies in the immoral hands of society. From what I understand, she promoted Sex in the City for treating " . . . men like the meat we girls so often feel like." My problem with this is that the solution to feeling like a piece of meat is not to make someone else feel like a piece of meat in return. That seems so childish. At any rate, one should take a step back to look at the core issue of the problem. The big issue seems to be that society has downgraded sex into simply a "one-night" desire and an unquenchable faceless action. Perhaps, I am being too much of a raging conservative and not realistic, but frankly, I don't care. I will not take heed to Miss Hepler's advice when she tells me that I need to follow Sarah Jessica Parker's character and "have sex like a man." Why? Because men, or anyone else for that matter, should not reduce sex to something so trivial. I think that overall, society needs to thoroughly examine the messages it portrays about sexuality. Certainly, it is not something in which to be ashamed, but it should never be demoralized like Sex in the City or Ms. Hepler's editorial.
