Weather
Highlight
Brush fires burned 4,478 acres across
Florida in January after 2000 ranked as one of the driest
years in the state's history. Several severe freezes in
December and January killed much vegetation, which
subsequently dessicated and contributed to the wildfires.
Florida's typical wildfire season peaks in May with the
onset of the summer thunderstorm season. Arson and debris
caused most of this January's fires.
