Letter to the Editor
Lawless' actions justified in objecting to activities
I think our great student president, Matt Roan, should learn some basic economics. This statement is in light of Friday's letter by Mr. Roan in which he states that "Rep. Lawless is forcing Penn State students to choose between free speech and an affordable education." Mr. Roan has said this because state Rep. John Lawless has objected to certain student run events. Anyone with any basic knowledge of economics would know that money does not grow on trees. The University Park Allocations Committee has a limited amount of money. To spend money on classless acts of debauchery, such as Cuntfest, would be a waste of Student Activity Fee. Now, I am all for the university showing diverse viewpoints and the exchange of ideas, but the fact is, some of these events have absolutely zero intellectual value. As far as Sex Faire goes, what intellectual value comes with "The Tent of Consent" and "Orgasm Bingo?" For a center of higher education, I feel it is a complete waste of money to sponsor events such as these. Though Mr. Lawless is in no way attempting to censor anyone, as an elected official, he has a constitutional duty to question this waste of money. He is doing his civil duty and any other elected, or non-elected official who is ignoring this should just bow their heads in shame. Mr. Roan, before you start whining, I think you'd better re-examine the situation before you make non-intelligent calls.
