Lawless right to question funding of some events
After reading Mr. Roan's letter about John Lawless' threats to cut PSU funding, a question popped into my mind. I would like to know how the USG president defines the word "intellectual." I don't consider females exposing themselves and using their body parts as puppets an intellectual experience. I also don't understand why I, a Pennsylvania taxpayer and student at Penn State, had to pay for it. Since this country's founding, people have been using their First Amendment rights as an excuse to act like idiots. While I understand that people do have a right to express themselves, I do not believe that state tax dollars and part of a student's tuition fees should be used to support questionable activities like those which have taken place on this campus over the past few semesters. Mr. Roan also blames Rep. Lawless for the inevitable loss of state funding that this university will suffer because of our actions. The truth is that we have brought this on ourselves. Events like Cuntfest and Sex Faire make the students on this campus look bad, and it reflects poorly on the university as a whole. You want more funding, Mr. Roan? I suggest we stop acting like little children and start behaving like the mature adults we claim to be. I think President Roan should go talk to the woman who exposed herself at a cost of $10,000 and thank her for the loss of state funding. In fact, I think Mr. Roan should approach the state House Appropriations Committee and explain to the senators why he believes the state should fund next year's Cuntfest event. I think it would give the senators a good laugh.
