Protests against class gift unfortunate and ignorant
In response to Adam Drake's letter on Feb. 2, which protests the class gift in favor of mere "tolerance of the nonsense that goes on here" at Penn State, I would like to remind him of a few things. First, I assume that Mr. Drake chose to attend this university. With that choice, he knew what came along with it. He knew the classes would be large and the system somewhat bureaucratic. He knew that Penn State is a public university, which supports diverse activities for all students. He blames the university for his failure to graduate on time. I wonder if he ever took 15 minutes to visit his adviser and figure out the right classes to take. He protests the use of his tuition money to support "ignorant and destructive" viewpoints. How sad that he finds voluntary activities and events, such as Cuntfest and coming-out rallies "destructive" to his well being. How ignorant. He should realize that all our tuition money is blind every student here, in paying her or his tuition, supports all activities that she or he may enjoy. That's part of attending a large, public university. I think he knew that. Good for him that when he leaves here, everything he takes with him will be a product of his "money and hard work." Ah, but he could have left with so much more had he only had an open mind too. In closing, I wish to remind him that donating to the class gift is optional. If he is not happy with the university, he shouldn't donate, period.
