Rockview employee gives birth to inmate's child

A former employee at the State Correctional Institution of Rockview was charged with violating a section of the institutional sexual assault code by having the child of an inmate, Rockview State Police said in a press release yesterday.

Sara Craig, a 33-year-old State College resident and a Psychological Services Associate at the facility, gave birth in May. Prison officials received information in June that the father of the child was an inmate. DNA tests confirmed the allegation, according to the release.

Craig is suspected of engaging in an intimate relationship with the inmate during their counseling sessions, police said.

Employees of a correctional institution are prohibited from engaging in any form of sexual contact with inmates. Craig's charge was filed with District Justice Daniel Hoffman. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 21.
