Former death row inmate to speak in Frizzell Room

William Nieves, a former death row inmate, will be speaking to students at 4:30 p.m. today in the Frizzell Room of Eisenhower Chapel.

Nieves was convicted of the 1992 murder of Eric McAiley and served six years on death row.

In 1997, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court granted Nieves a retrial due to "ineffective legal counsel." He was found innocent of the crime and released in October 2000.

Nieves is currently working with Pennsylvania Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty and travels throughout Pennsylvania calling for the end of the death penalty.

The event is being sponsored by Amnesty International, the ACLU and Pax Christi.
