[Monday,
Jan. 29, 2001 ] Today's University Park
forecast
More clouds and warmer air will infiltrate
the Commonwealth today ahead of a storm system taking
shape over the middle Mississippi River valley. As this
storm moves into the northeastern United States, it will
bring a mixed bag of precipitation. This will be a mostly
rain event for Happy Valley. The storm will stall over
our region, keeping clouds in our area for the rest of
the week.

Weather
Highlight
Unless nearly two inches of rain falls
before the end of the month in State College, January
will mark the seventh straight month of precipitation
that failed to exceed the normal. If the heavy
precipitation anticipated in February does not come, a
mild drought will develop across the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania by spring. The year 2000 ranked as the 13th
driest of the century, with an accumulated precipitation
deficiency of 8.34 inches. Since July 1, precipitation
measured only two-thirds of the normal to date.
