Letter to the Editor
Some in Glover's audience rude to leave speech early
I would like to take this time to tell you how ashamed I am by the actions of the people that attended Thursday night's lecture by distinguished speaker Danny Glover. I could not believe my eyes when people got up and started walking out of the auditorium halfway through the lecture. I will agree that at times Mr. Glover may have had a lot to say, which can be hard to absorb all at once. It was extremely disrespectful to Mr. Glover and put forth a rather negative image for the university. For those who did walk out, you missed some very insightful and interesting things as you left, ranging from Mr. Glover's thoughts on racism and the argument of free speech, with regards to the Confederate flag being flown in the South, to his thoughts on the current president. He even talked about his choice for Superbowl and his thoughts on Tupac Shakur. I do hope that Mr. Glover does not take with him a bad image of this university based on the actions of the people, but that he does take with him my sincere apology on behalf of all of those who didn't stay. And for those who did leave, shame on you!
