Abortion is here to stay despite perpetual debate

Greg Sturges' column was right on the money. Legalized abortion is here to stay in this country. It was silly for Al Gore and other Democrats to demagogue this issue during the election. I consider myself to be pro-choice, yet I realize that it is ridiculous to believe that "a woman's right to choose" hangs by such a tenuous thread as the number of conservatives on the Supreme Court.

It is clear that President Bush, like his father, is no zealot on the abortion issue. In fact, David Souter, one of his father's Supreme Court appointees, routinely votes with the liberals on issues such as abortion.

Therefore, the pro-choicers should not get too paranoid. Even if Roe v. Wade was overturned, there would be no state that would ban abortions outright. The people wouldn't allow it.
