In an attempt to increase student attendance at their theaters, Carmike Cinemas announced on Jan. 19 that students will now receive discounts on movie tickets.

After 6 p.m. daily, all shows will cost $5 for students. This is a $2 discount from the regular ticket prices.

Students do not need to show ID to receive the discount. Ticketmasters are to ask purchasers if they are students and an affirmative response gets a discount.

Carmike Cinemas also offer discounted weekend matinee tickets for $4.50.

"We'd just like to give people a break," said Robert Nead, manager at Cinema 5, 116 Hiester St.
