The aim of the relocation of a library book drop is to continue to save students from unwanted fines while saving librarians’ time.
The exterior bin at the entrance to Paterno Library will be removed, and a new book drop chute will be added on the west side of Pattee Library near the Curtin Road bus stop, said Catherine Grigor, manager of publications for University Libraries.
Temporary signs will direct people to the new chute, she added.
The change comes after library employees found themselves taking too many trips to remove materials from the outdoor receptacle.
Now, books will slide directly into a corner of the building and will ease the job of the librarians, Grigor said. "In inclement weather, they won't get wet," she said.
During times when the libraries are open, though, patrons are still encouraged to return items on the conveyor belt inside Gateway Commons.
